    24 words, on the card in the box, kept offline. Never typed into a website, a chat or an app.

    Check the device screen

    Ledger Live shows you an amount; the device shows you the truth. Approve only what matches.

    Download only from the official source

    Nobody from support will ever ask for your recovery phrase. Anyone who does is stealing.

Your 24-word recovery phrase is the wallet. Support, Ledger Live and this page will never ask you for it. If a screen asks for those words, close it.

Questions people actually ask

Is Ledger Live a wallet?

It is the companion app for your hardware wallet. Accounts and addresses live in the app, but the keys that sign transactions stay on the device — nothing can move without you pressing both buttons.

Do I need a Ledger device to use it?

Yes for anything that spends. You can install the desktop app and explore the interface, but sending, swapping and staking all require a connected device.

Can I keep the mobile app too?

Yes. Your accounts sync from the same recovery phrase, so phone and desktop show the same portfolio. Ledger Live does not sync between them through our servers.

How do I know a download is genuine?

Check the signature published alongside each release, and keep checking the device screen for what you actually sign. A page — including this one — is never proof.
